Nao figurines are a brand of the Lladro group, whose pieces are distinguished by the simplicity of their forms, lighthearted subject matters and colorful presentations. All Nao figurines pieces are created by the team of sculptors at the City of Porcelain and are made at the company’s workshops in the town of Xirivella, in Valencia (Spain).<br />
In Spain Lladro began. Brothers Juan, Jose, and Vicente Lladro worked in a tile and crockery factory in Velancia, at the time known as Almassera. They built a Moorish furnace in their home <see photo of Moorish furnace from main Llardo page> and experimented with sculptures in 1955 inspired by the creations of sculptoring masters, like Meissen, Sevres and Capodimonte. The popularity of their work increased dramatically at that time and forced them to move to a bigger location. With their newly discovered process of firing, Spain Lladro reduced the typical three-layer firing to a one-layer process and changed the industry with a crystalline effect to their porcelain that became the signature for their creations. <br />
