Sleeping in airports, train stations or anywhere except your bed

People who love travelling, or have to because of business or any other reason know perfectly that part of their travelling itinerary implies not sleeping on a comfy bed with white sheets and pillows, but in the installations of an airport, train, vehicle or any other type of transportation.  It can be really a drag for anyone, especially if you have to cope with sleep disorders or physical ailments, but sometimes this is almost unavoidable for any other reason out of your reach; thus it is better to be prepared to tackle as best as possible.

So, what can I do to have decent sleep anywhere but a normal bed?

sleeping in airportsAlways have a plan: Generally airports or train or bus stations are not really sleeper welcoming, though it is quite unlikely they would kick you out of there, particularly in airports where it is frequent that passengers have some flight scheduling problems; however, they will still come at you and ask why you are not staying at a hotel like anybody else.

Flight or travel cancellations: This can be a really hideous waste of time, but no one is free of this. So, it is better to make some extra space in your suitcase for travel station sleep supplies:

-    Bottle water
-    Earplugs
-    Eyeshades
-    Books, magazines or anything to read
-    Music: Mp3 player, walkman, iPod or any music player device
-    Toilet paper, tissues, towels or anything to clean
-    A travel blanket
-    A travel pillow

Travel problems: If it is “their fault” that you have to stay at the airport or bus or train station, then you are in your right to ask them to stay at their lounge (where they have their nicest accommodations).

Wear comfortable clothes: If you have a long trip on your way and want to arrive in the best conditions your destination, wear layers of breathable clothes you can take off or put on with no much trouble (weather is always unpredictable and bathrooms are sometimes full).

Something comfortable to sit or rest on:  A sleeping bag or pool raft can be good choices to place over the uncomfortable chairs at airports, bus, train stations, though they can be to conspicuous for inspectors’ eyes. Otherwise, a blanket and a pillow can do well and are by far more discrete.

Among the pillows you can take with you, you have two memory foam travel pillow options: the Wedge Pillow and the Neck Travel Pillow.

The Wedge Pillow is a memory foam incline for can be used in an upright position under your back for resting, reading, relaxing, or in downright position to extend your legs: Perfect to combat jet lag and cramps.

The Traveller Neck Pillow is perfect company on the airplane, bus or train seat, so you can keep your head up and your neck aligned, avoiding the chances of strains or injury provoked by falling asleep loosely on your side or with your chin pressing your chest.

Their exclusive filling of memory foam gives them comprisable capacity which allows them to maintain their shape and volume intact after you take them out of your suitcase or bag, and they are both lightweight to carry around easily.

Do not keep high expectations on receiving a pillow at the airport, bus or train. Many of these transportations companies are no longer offering this facility to their passengers due mainly to the high rates of “unreturned pillows”. Therefore, it is recommendable to take your own and prevent yourself from having a bad sleeping experience away from the comfort of a nice sweet bed.
